With the holidays just around the corner, many a techie would love to have a simple yet powerful camera to take the highe
st quality pictures and HD video with full stereo sound. There are so many wonderful choices this year from which to choose. As a techie myself and an amateur photographer, I'd like to give you my "snapshot" of what I would consider the two best 10 MP (megapixel) compact digital cameras/digicams in the $300-400 dollar price range.
Let's do a quick inline comparison on the specifics of these cameras:
Cost
The Panasonic Lumix LX5 is the pricier of the two cameras, costing about $50 dollars more than the Canon S95.
Size
Because the LX5 has a bulge, it is a little less compact than the S95.
Lens Size
The LX5 has a slightly wider lens than the Canon.
Build
Both Cameras are built sturdy, I think the LX5 seems a little easier to grip as it's a little bigger.
Daylight Shooting
Both are very clear, the LX5 runs a little warmer and the Canon is a little cooler in color.
Low Light Shooting
The Canon S95 outperforms the LX5 in this category as it's pictures are "picture perfect."
Close Up
The Canon is slightly clearer, in fact crystal clear and no blur at all.
Colors
The LX5 seems a little clearer on the reds, with all other colors being very similar.
Video
Pretty equal here, both are very good for a compact camera in HD.
Overall, either one would be great choice, but because the Canon is easier to carry around, and is a little less costly as well, I'm going to give it my "snapshot" edge in this competition.
You can check out both cameras on Amazon and get a huge discount as well as free shipping there.
